About

Yasuko Gotoh embarked on her esteemed career in April 1980 when she joined the Ministry of Transport, which has since evolved into the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT). Her journey in public service has been marked by a series of notable roles and achievements, reflecting her dedication to improving transportation infrastructure and fostering tourism.In June 2004, Gotoh ventured into international diplomacy as the Head of the New York Office for the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), where she played a pivotal role in promoting Japanese tourism and cultural exchange on the global stage.Transitioning to local governance, Gotoh assumed the position of Vice Governor of Yamagata Prefecture in October 2005, where she demonstrated effective leadership in regional development and governance.In July 2008, Gotoh returned to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT), serving as the Director of the Regional TransportBureau of Hokuriku and Shinetsu Regions. In this capacity, she spearheaded initiatives to enhance transportation networks and infrastructure in the region, contributing to its economic growth and connectivity.Elevating her impact in policy formulation, Gotoh was appointed as the President of the Policy Research Institute for Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism within MLIT in July 2013, where she led research efforts to inform strategic decision-making in transportation and infrastructure development.In June 2015, Gotoh transitioned to the private sector, joining Kyushu Railway Company as Managing Director, where she held dual responsibilities as the Deputy General Manager of Railway Operations Headquarters and General Manager of Tourism Business Headquarters. In this role, she played a key role in optimizing railway operations and promoting tourism initiatives to drive business growth.

Continuing her journey in corporate leadership, Gotoh assumed various roles within Kyushu Railway Company, including Managing Director in charge of the Finance Department and Director of the Audit & Supervisory Committee. Simultaneously, she served as a Special Advisor to the company, leveraging her expertise to provide strategic guidance and oversight.

Expanding her portfolio beyond Kyushu Railway Company, Gotoh assumed the role of External Audit & Supervisory Committee Member at Shiseido Company, Limited in March 2019, where she contributes her insights to ensure corporate governance and financial transparency.

In June 2019, Gotoh further diversified her board commitments by becoming an Audit & Supervisory Board Member at DENSO CORPORATION, where she offers her expertise in governance and strategic oversight.

Continuing her commitment to corporate governance and oversight, Gotoh currently serves as an Outside Corporate Auditor at Mitsui Chemicals, Inc., a position she assumed in June 2023, further solidifying her reputation as a trusted advisor and leader in both the public and private sectors.
