Dr. William G. Kaelin, Jr., also known as Bill, M.D., serves as Advisor at Casdin Capital, LLC since April 2023. Dr. Kaelin’s research focuses on the function of tumor suppressor proteins, such as pRb, pVHL and p53, with a goal of uncovering new approaches to treating cancer. Discoveries in Dr. Kaelin’s laboratory on the interactions between proteins in the Rb pathway and cyclins underlie Circle’s work to develop macrocycles that modulate cyclin function as cancer therapeutics. Dr. Kaelin has been widely recognized for his contributions to cancer biology and has received awards including the Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award, the Wiley Prize in Biomedical Sciences from Rockefeller University. He served as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Syros Pharmaceuticals since April 2013. He was named co-recipient of the Scientific Grand Prize 2012 of the Lefoulon-Delalande Foundation and Albert B. Lasker Prize. In 2019, he won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work in understanding how cells sense and adapt to changes in oxygen. He has received many awards for his work, including the Canada Gairdner International Prize, the AACR-Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Prize for Cancer Research and the Paul Marks Prize for Cancer Research from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He is a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Prof. David Livingston, where he began his studies of tumor suppressor proteins. He is Founder of Tango Therapeutics, Inc. and serves as its Member of Scientific Advisory Board since 2021. He became an independent investigator at the DFCI in 1992, and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School in 2002. He received an undergraduate and M.D. degree in 1982 from Duke University and was a house officer and chief resident in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He was a clinical fellow in Medical Oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, during which time he was a McDonnell Scholar.
