He began his professional career in 1982 as an assistant in the German Federal Parliament. He served with the German Army’s 1st Airborne Division from 1977 to 1978. Subsequently, as a reserve officer, he reached the rank of Major. Dr. Enders served as an Assistant in the German Bundestag from 1982 to 1989, and as a Research Associate of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the German Society for Foreign Affairs and the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in St. Augustin from 1985 to 1989. He served as a Research Associate of Deutsche Gesellschaft fĂĽr Auswärtige Politik from 1988 to 1990, the well-known German Society for Foreign Affairs in Bonn and also at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London. Before joining the aerospace industry in 1991, he worked, inter alia, as a Member of the Planungsstab of the German Minister of Defense and in various Foreign Policy think tanks. He was a Member of the Planning Staff for the Federal Minister of Defense in Bonn from 1989 to 1991. He joined Dasa in 1991. Dr Enders served as a Member of the Corporate Concept & Study Group and served as an Assistant to the Marketing Director of Dasa since 1992 and Vice President of Marketing for Europe. Since 1995, he served as Head of the Chairman’s office and Corporate Secretary of Dasa. He serves as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Airbus DS Holding B.V. He serves as the Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Airbus Defense and Space Deutschland GmbH. He is a Director of Praxair, Inc. since October 22, 2018. He was the Chief Executive Officer of Airbus S.A.S. until April 2019. He was a Supervisory Board Member at Deutsche Lufthansa AG until May 5, 2020. He serves as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Airbus Helicopters SAS. He served as Chairman of the Atlantik-BrĂĽcke e.V. from 2005 to 2009.

He served as Director of Airbus Defense and Space SA. He is a Member of the Advisory Counsel of EDB. He served as Director of Airbus Group Inc. From 2011 to 2015, he was a member of the Business Advisory Group of then-U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron. He is a patron of the German Mayday Foundation. He was the President of the German Aerospace Industries Association BDLI from April 2005 to 2012. He has been a Member of the BDI Presidential Board (German Industry Association) since 2009. He is also President (non-executive) of the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) in Berlin. In 2014, he joined the Advisory Council of the Munich Security Conference as well as the Senate of the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft. He is a Member of the International Advisory Board of Atlantic Council of the US. He holds a Private Pilot’s License (PPL) for helicopters. In 1987, he was awarded his Doctorate in Politics from Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and studied Economics, Political Science and History at the University of Bonn and at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
