Ralph Büchi, born in 1957, is a Swiss and a French citizen. In 1981, he graduated with a master degree in business administration at the University of Zurich.  From 1981 to 1999, he first worked as a business journalist and then as managing director for the business publishing group Handelszeitung in Switzerland. In these years, he further developed the group and, together with two partners, acquired the majority of the company through a management buy-out. In 1999, the group Handelszeitung was sold to Axel Springer SE. Subsequently, Ralph Büchi further expanded the business of Axel Springer in Switzerland with the acquisition of Jean Frey AG and parts of the Ringier portfolio in 2007. In 2008, he was appointed President International of Axel Springer SE. From 2012 to 2014, Ralph Büchi was a member of the Executive Board of Axel Springer SE and in charge of the whole international business. In 2015, he returned to Switzerland, but remained responsible for the international publishing business of Axel Springer. Parallelly, he established the new Swiss joint venture with the Swiss publisher Ringier AG, which he led as CEO from the start in 2016 until March 2020. In 2017, Ralph Büchi changed from Axel Springer to the position of COO and deputy CEO to the Group Executive Board of the internationally operating Ringier-Group, in charge of their publishing business, including the Swiss joint venture with Axel Springer, until March 2020. Ralph Büchi was also Chairman from 2017 to 2019 and currently is a Member of the Board of the London-based FIPP (The Network for Global Media). Since May 2021 he further is a member of the European Advisory Board of Samsung. Since April 2019 he is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Axel Springer SE.
