Michael Heider completed an apprenticeship as a chef. In 1981 he joined METRO GroĂźhandelsgesellschaft mbH Wuppertal where he held various functions including lastly in the incoming goods department. In 1997, Michael Heider became a member of the works council of METRO Wuppertal and since 2006 has been a full-time chairman of the works council at the Schwelm (Germany) store. In the same year, Michael Heider was elected a member of the general works council of METRO Cash & Carry Deutschland GmbH before becoming vice chairman of the general works council in 2010 and chairman of the Group Works Council in March 2023. Since 2013, he has been a member and since February 2023 vice chairman of the supervisory board of METRO GroĂźhandelsgesellschaft mbH. Since 2017, Michael Heider has also been a member of the supervisory board of today’s METRO AG.

In his long-term affiliation to the group in which he gained experience in several business divisions, Michael Heider knows from his activity as member and vice chairman in general works council boards the operational co-determination from experience.
