Mr. Koichi Sumida is a seasoned broadcasting professional and academic with a distinguished career in media and education. He began his journey in April 1983 when he joined the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK), where he honed his expertise in journalism and public broadcasting.
In July 1992, he moved to the Tokyo Broadcasting Center’s Announcement Room at NHK, where he played a key role in delivering news and programming. His career progressed further in March 2003 when he transitioned to the Programming Department at NHK’s Osaka Broadcasting Station, contributing to content development and audience engagement.
By June 2011, Mr. Sumida had risen to the position of Executive Announcer at NHK, reflecting his leadership and influence in the broadcasting industry. After nearly four decades of service, he retired from NHK in January 2020.
Following his retirement, he shifted his focus to academia, becoming a professor at Osaka University of Arts in April 2020. His commitment to education expanded in April 2022 when he was appointed as a visiting professor at Kansai University, sharing his vast knowledge with future generations.
In June 2023, he joined the corporate sector as an Outside Director of Rengo Co., Ltd., bringing his expertise in media, communication, and public engagement to the company’s board.
