Dr Karl- Ludwig Kley trained as an industrial clerk and studied law at Ludwig Maximilian University Munich from 1974 to 1979, completing his trainee lawyer period in Hamburg and Johannesburg from 1979 to 1982. He earned his Doctorate in Law (Dr. jur.) from Ludwig Maximilians University Munich in 1986. Weber started his professional career at Bayer AG in 1982 in Group Finance, later serving as Assistant to the Chairman of the Executive Board and CFO in Japan. From 1991 to 1994, he held various senior positions in sales and marketing in the pharma business segment and was head of Bayer Italy’s pharma business segment until 1997. He then became Head of Finance and Investor Relations at Bayer’s headquarters. From 1998 to 2006, Weber was a member of the Executive Board and CFO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG. He then served as Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Merck KGaA from 2006 to 2016. Since May 7, 2013, he has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, becoming its Chairman in September 2017, with his term elected until the Annual General Meeting 2026. Weber’s supervisory board experience includes serving as a member of the Supervisory Board of Bertelsmann SE & Co. KGaA (2007-2016), Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BMW AG (2008-2021), member of the Board of Directors of Verizon Communications Inc., USA (2015-2018), and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of E.ON SE (2016-2023). He currently holds no domestic supervisory board memberships required by statutory law but has various comparable domestic and foreign controlling body memberships in commercial enterprises.
