About
Kalidas Madhavpeddi has over 40 years of experience in the international mining industry. He started his career at Phelps Dodge, where he worked from 1980 to 2006, ultimately becoming both President of Phelps Dodge Wire & Cable and Senior Vice President responsible for the parent company’s global business development, acquisitions and divestments. Â During his career there, he was also Senior Vice President of its Marketing group and head of commodity trading for the parent company.
In 2008 he was appointed as CEO of CMOC International,  the operating subsidiary of China Molybdenum Co Ltd  (China Moly), a single asset company with a market value of $500 million. Focusing its strategic plan on global growth with a mix of strategic metals and industrial minerals, he led the company through $7 billion in acquisitions, including major deals with Freeport McMoRan, Anglo American, Rio Tinto and Louis Dreyfus. Mr. Madhavpeddi established CMOC International as a leading global mining and trading house. By the time of his retirement in 2018 the holding company had a market value of $22 billion and the business had a substantially improved record for safety, environmental discipline, diversity and integrity.
Mr. Madhavpeddi is currently a non-executive director of Novagold Resources Inc. and Trilogy Metals Inc. (each company’s principal asset is a 50% interest in a gold and copper development project respectively held in a JV) and Dundee Precious Metals Inc.. Each is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
Mr. Madhavpeddi has degrees from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India and the University of Iowa and has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
