Dr. Haller, age 69, has served since 2007 as ophthalmologist-in-chief of Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, where she holds the William Tasman, MD endowed chair. She is professor and chair of the department of ophthalmology at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University and Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals.

A magna cum laude graduate of Princeton, Dr. Haller received her MD degree from Harvard Medical School. She trained at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins where she served as the first female chief resident. She then joined the Johns Hopkins faculty, where she held the Katharine Graham Chair in Ophthalmology before her move to lead Wills.

One of the world’s most renowned retina surgeons, Dr. Haller has innovated translational advances against blindness on many fronts, including sustained drug delivery devices, ocular pharmacotherapy, retinal “chip” implants, gene therapy, telemedicine and combating health care disparities. Elected to the National Academy of Medicine, she has held many leadership roles in medicine. She serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees for the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, Chair of the Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Board and President of the John Hopkins Medicine Alumni Society. Dr. Haller also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Princeton University, and a consultant at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Dr. Haller currently serves as a director at Ophtea Limited and Outlook Therapeutics, Inc., and is a former director of Eyenovia, Inc.
