Harald Krüger, born on 13 October 1965 in Gräfelfing, Germany, is a highly regarded professional in the automotive industry and former Chairman of the Executive Board of BMW AG. He studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig and the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH) Aachen, earning his Dipl.-Ing. in Mechanical Engineering between 1984 and 1991.
Krüger’s career began as a research assistant at the Institute for Dynamics of Flight Systems at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) in Oberpfaffenhofen (1991-1992). He joined BMW AG as a trainee in technical examination and production in 1992 and served as a project engineer during the construction of the BMW plant in Spartanburg, USA (1993-1995). He held various roles at BMW, including HR Officer for test vehicle construction at the Research and Innovation Centre (FIZ) in Munich (1995-1997), Head of Strategic Production Planning (1997-2000), and Head of Production Strategies and Communication (2000-2003). From 2003 to 2006, he was the plant manager for engine production at Hams Hall in the UK.
Krüger took on increasingly senior roles, becoming Head of Technical Integration at BMW AG in Munich (2007-2008), a member of the Executive Board responsible for Human Resources and Social Affairs (2008-2012), and later overseeing MINI, Motorcycle, Rolls-Royce, and Aftersales (2012-2013). He was appointed as a member of the Executive Board responsible for Production (2013-2015) before ultimately serving as Chairman of the Executive Board from 2015 to 2019.
On 5 May 2020, Krüger was elected to the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, with his term lasting until the Annual General Meeting in 2027. He also holds a supervisory board membership at Deutsche Telekom AG.
Krüger’s extensive background in mechanical engineering and executive management has made him a prominent figure in the automotive industry, with a strong influence on strategic and operational decisions at BMW and beyond.
