Mr. Smolik joined the Marathon Oil board of directors in 2021.
He retired as president and chief operating officer at Noble Energy, following its merger with Chevron in 2020. Prior to joining Noble Energy in 2018, Mr. Smolik was chairman, chief executive officer and president at EP Energy Corporation from 2012 through 2017. He was president of El Paso E&P Corporation from 2006 through 2012, and Canada country president at ConocoPhillips and Burlington Resources from 2004 through 2006. Mr. Smolik also served in various positions at Burlington Resources from 1990 through 2004 and at Atlantic Richfield from 1984 through 1990.
Mr. Smolik currently sits on the Advisory Board of Monarch Resource Partners, the Texas A&M Dwight Look College of Engineering, and the Advancing Women Executives in Energy.
