About
Amelia serves as the Chief Executive of Liberty Two Degrees (L2D), a position she has held since the company’s establishment as a Trust REIT in December 2016 on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE). In 2018, she spearheaded the reconstitution of L2D into a Corporate REIT, aligning the business with investor preferences and successfully positioning it for sustainable growth.
Today, L2D co-owns some of South Africa’s most iconic shopping centers, including Sandton City, Nelson Mandela Square, Eastgate Shopping Centre, Melrose Arch, and Liberty Midlands Mall. The company is dedicated to creating experiential spaces that deliver value across generations.
Amelia has over 24 years of experience in the property and asset management industry. She began her career at Old Mutual Property, where she held various roles before becoming Chief Operating Officer. In 2012, she joined STANLIB to establish and lead the STANLIB Direct Property Investment division, ultimately transitioning to her leadership role at L2D.
During her tenure at STANLIB and Old Mutual, Amelia was instrumental in developing and managing businesses in several African and international markets, including India, Mauritius, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Botswana, Zambia, and Namibia. This included launching a first-of-its-kind business on the Nairobi Securities Exchange.
Amelia is an active member of the Standard Bank Group’s Investment and Asset Management Executive Committee. Her comprehensive expertise spans strategic and general management, encompassing listings requirements, stakeholder management, and investor relations.
As a passionate advocate for the property sector, Amelia served as President of the South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) from 2014 to 2015. She also chaired the Women’s Property Network (WPN) and acted as a trustee for the education trusts of WPN and SAPOA until 2018. Currently, she is part of the SA REIT Executive Committee and chairs its Research Committee, contributing to the establishment of an ESG framework that aligns with global best practices.
Amelia is also a vocal proponent of diversity and inclusion within the L2D business, which adheres to the United Nations Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs). These principles guide companies toward meaningful and impactful strategies for empowering women.
As a founding member of the WITS University Industry Advisory Board for the School of Construction Economics and Management, Amelia works to strengthen ties between academia and the property industry, fostering collaboration and growth.
She is widely recognized for her leadership and achievements, including being named among the first 50 women CEOs listed in the Africa.com Definitive List of Women CEOs, which highlights the journeys of exceptional women across the continent.
Amelia holds a B.Comm degree from Stellenbosch University and is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS – UK).
