“The downward trend on the Austrian job market has now continued for six quarters. In the third quarter of 2025, Austrian enterprises advertised 138,100 jobs — 6.6% fewer than in the previous quarter. Most job offers were in the retail and services sectors,” says Manuela Lenk, Director General of Statistics at Statistics Austria.
In comparison to the third quarter of 2024, when 167,800 vacancies were recorded, the decline amounts to 17.7%. The job vacancy rate, i.e. the proportion of vacancies in relation to all available jobs, also continued to decline. In the third quarter of 2025, it stood at 3.2%, a decrease of 0.2 percentage points compared to the previous quarter (3.4%). Compared to the third quarter of 2024, the rate dropped by 0.6 percentage points. 83.2% of all vacancies were advertised as full-time positions.
32,700 vacancies in the manufacturing sector, 82,900 vacancies in the retail and services sector and 22,500 vacancies in the public and social sector were reported in the third quarter of 2025.
